DeepSeek replaced its V4.1 Flash model with DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017 on October 17, 2026. The API name and listed prices stayed the same. Developers can keep calling deepseek-flash, even though the model behind that name has changed.

DeepSeek says the new version is available on its website, app and API. Bloomberg reported the rollout on October 17. DeepSeek’s changelog confirms the unchanged API method and price schedule.

Same endpoint, different model

The practical change is easy to miss: the integration can remain untouched while requests are handled by a newer model. That does not mean its answers will be identical.

Teams using the endpoint in production should rerun their own checks for accuracy, formatting and tool use. This is a practical precaution, not a requirement reported by DeepSeek.

Faster, according to DeepSeek

DeepSeek says the update is faster, produces shorter outputs and performs better on benchmarks than its predecessor. Those are the company’s claims, not an independent assessment of every developer’s workload. DeepSeek’s announcement describes the update.

Unchanged per-token rates do not guarantee identical bills. Total cost can still shift if a task uses a different number of input or output tokens. DeepSeek’s pricing page lists the current Flash model version and rates.

The endpoint and listed prices are unchanged, but developers should test how the refreshed model behaves in their own applications.
